Established in 1988, Habitat for Humanity of Richland and Crawford Counties is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Our organization was founded by a dedicated group of community leaders who shared a vision of providing affordable housing solutions to those in need.
Thanks to an initial grant from The Richland County Foundation, our Board of Trustees was established, and we wasted no time in recruiting volunteers from all walks of life. Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization, and their dedication and hard work have been instrumental in our success.
In late 1989, we embarked on our first home rehabilitation projects, bringing new life to existing homes in our communities. Shortly after, in a momentous occasion, we broke ground on our first complete home construction. By 1996, we had completed thirteen homes and rehabilitations, providing safe and decent housing options for local families in need.
Throughout our journey, we have been fortunate to forge partnerships with various individuals, churches, local banks, and corporations. Their support, whether through financial contributions, volunteer efforts, or in-kind donations, has been invaluable in helping us achieve our mission. Together, we have built over forty homes, each one representing a new chapter of hope and stability for deserving families.
From the very beginning, we have been committed to partnering with Habitat for Humanity International and following their proven model of success. Our affiliation allows us to tap into the resources, expertise, and network of a global organization that has made a difference in communities since 1976.
Our mandate in Habitat for Humanity is to work diligently to help bring into being graceful communities, towns, and cities. This is so important because the alternative is disgraceful. We must begin to think like this. If we do, we will increasingly see transformations in our communities.
