Become a Habitat Partner Family

At Habitat for Humanity of Richland and Crawford Counties, we are dedicated to providing safe and affordable housing for low to moderate-income households. Our homeowner eligibility and selection process is based on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s definition of area median income, ensuring that we serve families whose income does not exceed 60% of the local area median income.

If you dream of owning your own home, we are here to support you through the application process and guide you every step of the way.

Create a Path to Homeownership
Becoming a Habitat homeowner requires commitment, hard work, and dedication. Our comprehensive process ensures the long-term success of our homeowners and strengthens our communities.
Assistance from Application to Keys
When you partner with us, we work together from the initial application to the moment you receive the keys to your new home. This collaborative approach helps you build the necessary skills and knowledge for successful homeownership, including personal finance management, mortgage understanding, home maintenance, and more. Once selected, Habitat homeowners become partners in the process.
Build a Sense of Ownership Through Sweat Equity
This partnership involves actively participating in constructing their own home or the homes of others in our homeownership program, known as "sweat equity." Sweat equity can also be fulfilled by taking homeownership classes or volunteering at Habitat ReStore locations. This collaborative effort helps create a sense of ownership and pride in the community.
Pay an Affordable Mortgage
Habitat homeowners must be able and willing to pay an affordable mortgage. We strive to ensure that the mortgage does not exceed 30% of the homeowner's gross monthly income. By keeping mortgage payments affordable, we enable families to build a stable financial foundation while also reinvesting those payments back into the community to support the construction of additional Habitat houses.
Equal Opportunity Selection
Habitat for Humanity follows a nondiscriminatory policy for homebuyer selection. We do not consider race or religion as factors in our selection process. Our mission is to provide affordable housing opportunities to all qualified individuals and families in need.
