Hundreds of dedicated volunteers contribute their time and skills to help build Habitat homes. These volunteers come from various backgrounds and experiences, united by their passion for making a difference. Whether it's framing walls, installing roofing, or painting, every volunteer plays a vital role in the construction process.
Our partner families are not just recipients of a home; they actively participate in constructing their own houses. Through our "sweat equity" program, partner families invest hours of their time and effort into the building process. This not only fosters a sense of ownership and pride but also strengthens their commitment to the community.
Once the homes are completed, they are sold to the partner family through a no-interest mortgage held by Habitat for Humanity. This affordable mortgage allows the homeowner to begin building immediate equity in their home while making manageable monthly payments. The mortgage payments received by Habitat are then reinvested to fund the construction of more new houses, creating a sustainable cycle of impact.
Fundraising plays a critical role in purchasing the necessary construction materials. Habitat for Humanity of Richland and Crawford Counties is fortunate to have received support from generous foundations such as the Richland County Foundation, The Black Family Foundation, Russell & Mary Gimbel Foundation, and others. Their contributions, alongside individual donations, allow us to continue our mission of providing safe and affordable housing to those in need.
To supplement our funding efforts, Habitat for Humanity of Richland and Crawford Counties holds various small fundraisers throughout the year. These events unite community members, businesses, and supporters to raise funds, increase awareness, and strengthen our mission. These fundraisers are an opportunity for everyone to contribute to the cause and make a positive impact in their local community.
