The Need for Affordable Housing

How Habitat for Humanity of Richland and Crawford Counties is breaking the cycle of poverty.

The need for affordable housing is widespread, affecting families in various communities. Habitat for Humanity of Richland and Crawford Counties addresses this issue by offering a long-term solution to break the cycle of poverty. Through collaborative efforts with future homeowners, volunteers, and our dedicated staff and board, we construct simple, quality, and affordable homes. By providing 0% interest mortgages, we empower families who would otherwise struggle to access homeownership.

Housing instability creates stress and compromises the well-being of families. Adults who struggle with housing costs experience health issues, while children living in insecure housing can face developmental challenges. Affordable housing relieves families from financial burdens and opens doors to new opportunities, instilling confidence and self-reliance.

Habitat for Humanity not only constructs homes but also engages in disaster prevention, offers loans for home improvements, assists with land ownership, and advocates for effective housing laws. The need for affordable housing is a pressing concern nationwide, with a significant percentage of income dedicated to housing expenses. Trade-offs, such as second jobs and compromised healthcare, are common to cover housing costs.

By addressing these challenges, we aim to create a world where everyone can access safe and affordable housing. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of families in need.
